Women Only & Fall Fat Tire Victories
November 12th 2006
Kathy and George shared recent 2nd place victories in two separate events.

Kathy`s event was the Women Only Weekend in Big Bear in late September. This was an outrageous weekend with one-on-one coaching from pro women riders all day Saturday and a race, in which she took 2nd place, on Sunday. Any women riders who really want to "kick it up a notch" and have a roaring good weekend should calendar this event for next year.

George rode the Fall Fat Tire Classic in Walnut on November 5th. He started the race in Sport Class this year and after 18 miles, 1 crash, 3 chain sucks and a whole lot of awesome competition - he came in 2nd!!! Yes!

Here`s Kathy finishing her 2nd of three laps and celebrating victory on the podium.

Fall 2006 Clinics - Week 1
September 18th 2006
Well you can see the difference in the So Cal landscaping from Spring to Fall. Our lovely green hills have turned brown - but the mountain biking is still awesome.

Our "newbies" are proving to be a great group with some exceptional collective skill in balancing ! !

Here`s Mary Ann "stepping wide" on the dismount and the group practicing slow speed drills.

North Rim 2006
September 18th 2006
Well our 2005 North Rim trip was so much fun we decided to go back again. And the encore was fabulous - great riding, amazing food, and a fun week of camping with 13 new biking buddies.

What an awesome place to ride ! ! ! Or to sit on the edge of an ancient canyon.

2005 Fall Fat Tire Classic
November 08th 2005
November 6th was the 2005 Fall Fat Tire Classic mountain bike race held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The college has been holding this race for 15+ years.

The course is a 7 mile loop with a surprisingly varied terrain. It starts on Mt. Sac`s cross country track, heads out into BLM land, through cow pastures (with real cows walking right beside the singletrack), through grasslands, up and down some very challenging hills (some that are lung-busting `walk only` hills), and back onto the campus. Women ride one lap (7 miles) and men ride two (14 miles).

George, Kathy, and their riding buddy, Don Barker all entered the race. And, guess what?!?!? They all went home with 1st place trophies for their respective class.

Here are some photos you might enjoy seeing. George, Kathy & Don with their happy faces on before the start of the race and George with his race face as we get closer to start time.

Kathy at the starting gate. You`ll notice the crowd has thinned out. She was one of only 7 women in a field of about 250, and the ONLY woman in her age group.

Second photo is Don coming around the corner after a descent.

Back From The North Rim
September 13th 2005
We just got back from 5 days of riding the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with Western Spirit.

There were 13 of us. We lived in the forest & rode together for a week.

This was some of the best singletrack we`ve ridden. Imagine riding through pines & aspens in the forest while looking out on the Grand Canyon. It was hard to wipe the grins off of our face. The singletrack offered lots of short climbs & descents through the forest & over the rocks. Switchbacks were not too difficult and there weren`t many sections that demanded walking.

We saw deer, elk, squirrels, and a variety of lizards.

Great people, awesome views, fun riding, yummy food . . . who could want more?

For more photos check out our Photo Gallery page & if you`d like to learn more about Western Spirit vacations - check out our links page.
